We have tried many types of Caulerpa species over the years, none come close to the stability and ease of care of this species. We have kept a continuous stable fast growing culture of the strain for more than 20 years, unlike any other we have tried. This species does not 'go sexual'.
Unlike some other marine algae's it does not require a rest or dark period, when lit for a 24/7 photo period it is extremely effective at removing Phosphate and nitrate. We use this algae as our only control of these elements adding extra nitrates to lower PO4 to zero or near zero in all our systems. It is vigorous and fast growing forming dense thickets that should be harvested to 'export' the nutrients they have assimilated.
Moving this algae to a 24/7 photoperiod was a gamechanger to our aquaculture business, no longer having to worry about phosphate control and a total disappearance of any other sort of algae that could be considered nuisance type.
