Soap fish photo album

HOME LIVE STOCK

Soap fish acquire their name from their ability to exude a soapy substance toxic to both themselves and other fishes. This may sound as though these fish are not suitable for an enclosed aquarium system. We have collected many specimens over a number of years and have only managed to stress one fish enough to cause this to happen during capture, it resulted in the death of the fish and all inhabitants of the collection bucket. We have yet to run into problems within an aquarium or during shipping though it does represent a potential problem that you should be aware of.

Yellow emperor   Diploprion bifasciatum WA Yellow_emperor.gif (17555 bytes) *** Despite its looks it should be classed as a predator fish, with a large extendable jaw it can inhale its prey in much the same way a lionfish can.
