At Oceanarium priority is given in our marketing to any cultured specimens rather than those collected from the wild. We are ourselves ever learning how to supply our own cultured corals, rock and fishes. We are always willing to purchase any cultured specimens in preference to wild collected we see it as important to support such noble yet economically difficult ventures. We strongly urge you also to support cultured specimens in preference to wild collected . Your support now will allow prices to come down as techniques are mastered and volumes increase. If you can supply us with specimens or information on any aquaculture venture supplying wholesale aquarium specimens we would be glad to hear from you so we could add our own support. Similarly if you are running such a venture or just starting up contact us for some discounted brood stock or any other help we can offer. We recognize that increasing demands from the aquarium hobby will not be able to be supported indefinitely from increasing wild harvest of many already over stressed fisheries around the world. We treat our own ability to collect wild specimens as a privilege and do so with the most sustainable practices. The West Australian wild caught fishery has a capped amount of effort and strict quota’s enabling a small sustainable harvest from the massive and diverse coastline available to our industry. Our longer term vision is to utilize our own wild catch ability only for brood stock requirements. Peter & Leanne Fullarton |
